STEIM presents on Tuesday April 12th at 20.30h a lecture by Jo 
Zimmermann aka Schlammpeitziger


"The Origins of Independent Electronic Music"

On Tuesday the 12th of April Jo Zimmermann aka Schlammpeitziger, master 
of the Casio and inventor of almost unending song-titles will hold a 
lecture on the origins of independent electronic music.
He will put special emphasis on the post punk scene from the 80's ( Der 
Plan, Residents, Chris & Cosey, Palais Schaumburg, Boyd Rice & Daniel 
Miller to name but a few) and also show how it was connected to the 
visual arts. After interim-activities such as remixing Depeche Mode, a 
"Best of Schlammpeitziger" release ("Collected Simplesongs Of My 
Temporary Past") on Domino Tokuma & Thrill Jockey, last year's 
"everything without all inclusive" album and appearances at several 
festivals, the enigmatic music master from Cologne is giving us a close 
insight on his musical influences. The lecture will include rare film 
and slide material and is a special occasion to learn about these 
influencial groups in a personally & carefully selected program.

"Few contemporary electronic acts have developed such a distinctive 
aural handwriting as Schlammpeitziger has over the years.
Schlammpeitziger has constantly perfected his sound and expands it with 
surprising elements.
Friendly Casio-grooves and irresistible melodies reign supreme. But 
beneath the surface, seriousness and doubt are lurking to stake out 
their claim."

A concert by Schlammpeitziger and David Michael DiGregorio will take 
place at studio 3 on thursday the 14th of april.
